In 2012, at a Mellow Mushroom in Greensboro, I sat down with my 15-year-old nephew, Austin Sparks. I wanted him to have something of his own.
He named it himself: Sparks, with an X.
We skated together for years, and I had a woodworking shop. So we built longboards by hand, and Austin sold them to his friends.
Sparks Longboards became SPARX Board Co.
This is Austin’s brand. And we’re still building it.

To Write Love
on Her Arms.
SPARX Board Co. proudly partners with To Write Love on Her Arms — a nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide.
Austin's story is too many people's story. Skating was his therapy. For others it's art, music, community, or just knowing someone cares. TWLOHA is there for the people who need to hear "you matter" most.
